Info | Lieutenant 112th Illinois Infantry, Company C.During the spring of 1863 participated in Colonel Wm. P. Sanders daring raid into east Tennessee. Also served with General Ambrose Burnside's campaign in east Tennessee in 1863 and 1864.
The 112th joined the armies of Major Gen. Sherman for the campaign against Atlanta, Ga. After Atlanta fell the regiment was separated from Sherman's force and shifted to help defend Tennessee from the troops of General John B. Hood. Yhey took part in the Battles of Columbia, Franklin, and Nashville, Tn. In the Battle of franklin on Nov. 30, Alexander's brother Edward was killed.
After the Alexander returned to farming in his home state. In 1880 he ran for and won a seat in the state House of Representatives. He died in dec. 1898 in New Windsor, Illinois.
