Info | Esther Fletcher is currently a Councilwoman in the Borough of River Edge where she resides with her husband and two children.
As a teacher, Esther knows what it takes to give our children a better tomorrow. She has shown her dedication to educating our children both in and out of the classroom. She served ten years on the Parent Teacher Organization as an officer and as president and is a member of New Jersey Education Association. She is dedicated to maintaining a strong educational system and believes we should provide for students with special needs.
Her approach to government is hands-on, directly interacting with residents to understand their concerns and provide effective solutions. She is often noted for her direct and honest approach. During the recent storm she worked with emergency services to aid residents. After the storm, she facilitated repairs and provided information and help to residents with storm related damages.
Esther has spent many hours advocating for property tax reform and even testified before the Joint Legislative Committee on School Funding Reform to request equal funding for special needs students and to advocate for a streamlined reporting process for our schools.
With a Masters in Business Administration, Esther has the ability to make sensible fiscal decisions for her community. She secured a $50,000 grant through the state’s Smart Growth Grant program that helped offset the cost of land redevelopment studies, thus easing the burden of property taxes for our residents.
Esther is a dedicated public servant who believes in giving back to the community. She has contributed and volunteered for numerous organizations on both the local and national level. These groups advocate for environmental, health, athletic, cultural, historic, educational and charitable causes.
Esther has also worked hard to help our fellow Democrats get elected, including volunteering her time in the campaigns of U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, Governor Jon Corzine, Congressional candidate Paul Aronsohn, as well as numerous local River Edge races.
In the State Assembly Esther will work tirelessly for the people of District 39. Among her top priorities are fighting to level the distribution of state school funding for special needs programs; working to keep our communities safe and encouraging more communication between municipalities, counties and the State; and advocating for reduced government waste through on-line reporting and shared information.
