Info | Congressman John Kline begins his service in the United States House of Representatives following 25 years of active duty service in the United States Marine Corps.
Kline brings to Washington the benefit of his military experience, from which he retired as a Colonel in 1994. During his career, Kline served in Vietnam and commanded all Marine aviation forces in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. Kline also served as Program Development Officer at Headquarters Marine Corps and was responsible for developing the Program Objectives Memorandum ? a $50 billion resource allocation plan.
Although this marks his first elected office, Kline is familiar with Washington, where he served as a military aide to Presidents Carter and Reagan. Kline?s responsibilities included carrying the nuclear ?football? ? the package containing launch codes for a nuclear attack ? and advising the country?s senior leadership, including the President.
Following his service in the Marine Corps, Kline and his wife, Vicky, moved to Lakeville, Minnesota. During this time, John helped his father-in-law manage the family farm in Houston County and worked with the Center for the American Experiment, a conservative think tank in Minneapolis.
Congressman Kline is pleased to receive assignments on the Armed Services and the Education and the Workforce Committees. He looks forward to addressing the issues of military transformation and further implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act. He will strive to serve the people of the Second Congressional District with the same honor and integrity he demonstrated during his 25-year career in the United States Marine Corps.
