Info | WRIGHT, Hendrick Bradley, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pa., April 24, 1808; attended the Wilkes-Barre Grammar School and was graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., in 1829; studied law; was admitted to the bar November 8, 1831, and commenced practice in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County; appointed district attorney for Luzerne County in 1834; member of the State house of representatives 1841-1843 and served the last year as speaker; delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1844, 1848, 1852, 1856, 1860, 1868, and 1876

Candidate for election to the Thirty-second Congress in 1850; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1855); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1854 to the Thirty-fourth Congress; elected to the Thirty-seventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of George W. Scranton and served from July 4, 1861, to March 3, 1863; resumed the practice of his profession; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fifth Congress and reelected as a Greenbacker to the Forty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1877-March 3, 1881); chairman, Committee on Manufactures (Forty-fifth Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1880; died in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., September 2, 1881; interment in Hollenback Cemetery.
