Info | On March 30, 2006 Lisa MacLeod made history. Lisa's by-election victory meant she became the first woman to represent Nepean-Carleton at Queen's Park and that she was the youngest woman to ever be elected as a Progressive Conservative in Ontario, both federally and provincially. At the age of 31, Lisa became the youngest member of the Ontario Legislature in the 38th Parliament.
As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Nepean-Carleton, Lisa has also served as the Official Opposition Critic for Children and Youth at Queen's Park and as a Member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
As a community builder, in May 2007 Lisa was nominated as a YMCA/YWCA Woman of Distinction for the City of Ottawa for her work on autism and work with seniors. In 2006, along with MP Pierre Poilievre, Lisa co-chaired a successful Manotick Legion Rebuilding Fund BBQ. She was also part of a team that brought Red Friday to Barrhaven in order to support Canadian troops abroad.
Lisa served in 2006 and 2007 as the Honourary Chair for the Nepean Seniors Walk for Independence and from 2004-2005 Lisa was the Communications Chair, and member of the Board of Directors, for the Canadian Cancer Society-Ottawa Unit.
Lisa is currently a Honourary Patron of the Ottawa Christmas Exchange and the Honourary President of the Metcalfe Agricultural Society's annual Fair, a role she has held since 2006. Lisa also serves on the South Nepean Autism Centre's organizing committee and hosts a semi-annual Nepean-Carleton Women's Business Networking breakfast.
Lisa MacLeod was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and she is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University. Prior to her election to the Legislature, Lisa was part of the management team at Sobeys Inc., the national policy process coordinator for the former PC Party of Canada, and she previously served the residents of Nepean-Carleton at all three levels of government as a political aide to local politicians Pierre Poilievre, MP, Councillor Jan Harder and former Nepean-Carleton MPP, and current federal Environment Minister, the Honourable John Baird, MP.
Lisa MacLeod and her husband Professor Joe Varner reside in Nepean with their daughter Victoria and their best friend, Abbey the puppy.
