Info | William M. "Bill" Manzi III, currently a City Councilor representing the Central District of Methuen, will be sworn-in as the third Mayor of Methuen on Monday, January 2, 2006, at 4:00 P.M. Manzi ran an unsuccessful campaign for Mayor in 1993, losing with only 24% of the vote. In 1995, he was elected to the City Council, and was re-elected in 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2003. When term-limits were established in 1999 (affecting every elected official in Methuen), Manzi was not eligible to run again after his six-year term expired. As a result, he chose to make another attempt to become Mayor of Methuen. He succeeded, and this time, he was on the other end of the landslide, defeating political activist and interior designer Ellen M. Bahan by a whopping 3,199 votes.
Manzi attended Central Catholic High School, graduating in 1974. He then went on to earn a B.A. in Political Science in 1978 from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Later that year, he earned an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell.
All in all, Manzi comes to office chock-full of experience, and knowledge about how to run a government.
