A former Ohio senator known as a philanthropist, mentor and activist described as "Mr. Middletown," was laid to rest Sunday.
Former Senator Barry Levey, 73-years old, died Thursday after his battle with cancer.
Levey first served in the state legislature in the Ohio House of Representatives for eight years.
He then went turned his attention to serving on Miami University's Board of Directors and was instrumental in developing the Middletown campus.
From 1987 until 1995 Levey served in the Ohio Senate where he fought for tougher drunk driving laws as well as campaign and education reform.
Ohio Governor Bob Taft spoke at Levey's funeral at Temple Beth Sholom in Middletown.
