InfoDr. Rupinder Brar is an accomplished astrophysicist with a wealth of academic and research accolades under his belt. Although he recently completed a doctoral thesis on spiral galaxies, his head is anywhere but in the clouds. Rupinder's greatest concern is the ground beneath his own two feet, in his hometown riding of Mississauga-Erindale.

Born in 1975 in Toronto to parents who had recently immigrated to Canada from India, Rupinder moved into the Mississauga-Erindale community at the age of 7, where he attended Hawthorn Public School, Hillside Sr. Public School and Clarkson Secondary School. Rupinder fostered a keen sense of social responsibility from a young age, involving himself in projects with the Heart and Stroke foundation, and volunteering his time as a peer mentor and tutor.

Between earning an Honours B.Sc. in Physics, Astronomy and Mathematical Science at the University of Toronto, an M.Sc. in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Waterloo, and a Ph.D. in Physics and Astronomy at Queen's University, Rupinder managed to find time to write editorial cartoons for the Medium at the University of Toronto and the AntiThesis, the graduate newspaper for Queen's University, which he also edited. Rupinder has volunteered for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, and represented his faculty in the student governments of his various universities.

Rupinder Brar develops a passion for everything to which he decides to donate his time, and has received numerous bursaries and awards, including the Christopher Knapper Award for Excellence in Teaching Assistance at Queens University.

Rupinder has taught physics at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Oshawa since 2004.
