Info | Jim Motznik was elected to Pittsburgh City Council on February 27, 2001 and took office on March 13, 2001. This was a special election to fill the vacated council seat left by Michael Diven who was elected to the State House of Representatives in November of 2000. Before getting elected, Councilman Motznik worked as the Chief of Staff for Michael Diven. Previously, Jim worked as a Foreman in the Department of Public Works where he ran paving crews and numerous park maintenance crews.
A graduate of Seton-La Salle High School, Jim has attended various classes at Robert Morris College. He and his wife, Mary, have two children: thirteen year old daughter Mallory and two year old son Jack.
As a resident of Overbrook, Councilman Motznik supports numerous neighborhood initiatives, Neighborhood Schools and a strong Public Safety department. In keeping with this policy, he will focus on improving business districts, increasing police presence and maintaining quality senior citizen centers throughout the 4th Council District.
Immediately following his election, Councilman Motznik was appointed Council President Pro Tem and Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Committee.
