Info | FRAZIER, James Beriah, (father of James Beriah Frazier, Jr.), a Senator from Tennessee; born in Pikeville, Bledsoe County, Tenn., October 18, 1856; attended the common schools and Franklin College near Nashville, Tenn.; graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1878; read law in Nashville, Tenn., admitted to the bar in 1881, and commenced practice in Chattanooga, Tenn.; Governor of Tennessee 1903-1905; elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate March 21, 1905, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of William B. Bate and served from March 21, 1905, to March 3, 1911; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1910; resumed the practice of law; died in Chattanooga, Tenn., March 28, 1937; interment in Forest Hill Cemetery.
