Hikikomori Blitzkrieg!: Why anyone would desire to install as Speaker a neocon cypher who wants to take us into a potentially strategic nuclear conflict over a Russo-Ukranian border dispute, well, that's a little more difficult to understand.
Anyone well qualified to be Speaker of a Republican led House would refuse to take the job.

I've been thinking this all morning, but... what else does McCarthy have to give up it just feels like the dissenters are doing this for the sake of dissenting.

They don't trust McCarthy. Boebert said so directly on MSNBC. No amount of negotiation can fix that.

He's also caved on nearly all their demands and they just keep saying no. And McCarthy has said he's against more Ukraine aid. And he has 200 votes to the holdouts 20...but he's the problem. Ahh, I wish I could reject reality as thoroughly as some people. I know it wouldn't actually change anything, but I imagine it's nice to live in a fantasy world.

They need someone to tell him "Have you no sense of decency?"

I think McCarthy might have it.

Make that four, two more have flipped to McCarty this round

They can change rules and get him there.

If 13 change votes then he can be speaker by pluarity

The Fixer: They can change rules and get him there.
Wouldn't it take a majority to change the rules?

He may have enough if some of them abstained.

Not unless a few people start voting present.

To be honest those who are switching their votes seem like they are forced to.

Matt Rosendale just trolled them all.

|
Campari_007: He may have enough if some of them abstained.
He'd have to get the hardened crazies to acquiesce and vote present.

Wait next round everyone who switched their votes go for Rosendale.
He seems happy he voted that way.

So McCarthy needs to flip 3 out of Biggs, Boebert, Crane, Gaetz, Good, Harris, and Rosendale. I don't think he is going to be able to catch enough Democrats at doctor appointments or anything to lower the majority threshold enough.
If I were McCarthy, I would have moderates negotiate a deal with Democrats and then ask the crazies if that is what they would prefer. Democrats might not go along with negotiations unless a group of moderates publicly declares that they are negotiating.

He could also get the remaining rebels to vote present or support a rule change to allow a plurality to elect a speaker

Can't change rules until there's a Speaker. And changing to allow a speaker by plurality is a tacit vote for Kevin. In other words, it's a fantasy. He either gets the votes or he doesn't.

Right now, it's kinda looking like Boebert/Gaetz played this in a way where they're gonna be left out in the cold.
Of those 7, I'd rank them from most to least likely to fold as follows:
Harris, Good, Rosendale, Biggs, Crane, Boebert, Gaetz.

He could get Cuellar for border security.

Looks like he got Harris. McCarthy better make sure the rest of the caucus doesn't see the deals he has made with the crazies.
