That's why if I worked for the California Democrats I'd be pretty po'd at Newsom. He just doesn't seem to be trying. Connecting the recall to Trump is helpful to the "No" vote campaign, but there needs to be more, there needs to be an enthusiastic drive to get people to vote which isn't very difficult to do in California, but again Newsom still doesn't seem to care.

Newsom knows he's never gonna get to be the President (how many more White men are going to obtain the Democratic Presidential nomination?)
Since the governor's office was always just intended as a stepping stone to the White House, Newsom probably doesn't much care anymore.

I'm obviously a little late with this idea, but it would have been fun to run (as a Democrat) in this race with the explicit promise that if elected I would immediately resign to let the Lieutenant Governor become the new governor. That is the obvious work-around for our stupid recall law.

|
|
^If the electorate consisted of the sort of people who utilize this website, that would totally work.
|
|
|
There isn't some magic, technical work-around that enables representative democracy to somehow work well, when you're electorate largely consists of a degenerate, ignorant rabble.

I'm working under the premise that the "John Blake" in the Survey USA results is a result for John Drake

I wonder if Caitlyn believes the polls yet. I mean she's polling below Holly Baade and Mando Perez-Serrato. Which begs the question: who are Holly Baade and Mando Perez-Serrato; and what time and where can I watch their reality shows?

I wonder if that is a typo in the cross tabs. Hopefully they gave the right name when polling. I can't help wondering if some of the polling has a little "Mark Fairchild / Janice Hart" effect.

Now polling indicates voters might be ready for changes too.
the broadest support was for holding a runoff election when a recall succeeds but no replacement candidate wins a majority of votes. The idea was supported by 63% of voters
The next most popular modification in the Berkeley IGS poll would limit recall elections to targeting an incumbent whose conduct is illegal or unethical, a change favored by 60% of voters surveyed. - [Link]

I'm guessing this race isn't being officially called for Elder by any outlets because it's now a redundant race (with the "no" victory) or is there actually a chance of someone else coming up way ahead of him?*

I was updating the results and somehow accidentally marked Lodge, the winner. I clicked the clear winner link, but he's still checked as a winner.
|
|
|
Fixed. In future, just click the winner designation for the person you meant if the Clear Winner link gives you grief.

Well, I wasn't meaning to click any winner but yes, the clear winner link does give us grief.

Crazy how someone like Faulconer can perform this poorly in this day and age.

Ted Gaines finishing in 17th place is interesting. I guess California voters don't fall in love with their Equalization Board members.

Brandom M. Ross came in 2nd place in Imperial County, because Imperial County.

Still find it hard to believe that with all her name recognition Caitlyn finished tied with a bunch of nobodies who spent less combined than what she probably spends in a day.

any thoughts about moving this race and the recall race to a new container since the results would be in the history graph even if the winners won't take office?

the Board of Equalization really doesn't have that much power anymore, so apparently it's not a good springboard.
Surprisingly Mike Schaefer (who is also on the BOE after decades as a frequent candidate) didn't run as a replacement

Gavin Newsom made sure to dissuade Schaefer from running. With six decades in and sort of around politics, Newsom wasn't taking any chances.

I don't find this really surprising given that Paffrath was the main Democrat running in the replacement election and this is San Francisco afterall.
