Out of curiosity what happens if there is no Speaker and Congress has to certify votes?

Congress doesn't have to certify votes though

The counting of the electoral votes?

Honestly, who cares the less crappy legislation they pass the better in fact lets just keep doing this until January 3, 2025

The Fixer: The counting of the electoral votes?
The Senate does that. If the choice of president were thrown to the House state delegations for some reason, the GOP (which leads in those state delegations) would have extreme motivation to set aside their dysfunction and choose a Speaker.

The debt ceiling vote to avoid destroying the US credit and plunging the world into a massive depression might be important.

Do you think after 7 ballots McCarthy finally gets it?

I was going to be surprised if Trump wasn't in the mix before the end. Not that he's likely to get it.

So it's said that McCarthy gave in to any ONE member being able to call for another speaker vote. How long would it take for that?

As small as it seems it’s a huge demand but McCarthy just looks weaker and weaker the longer this goes on. The other GOPers look more and more annoying.

Campari_007: Ken Buck didn't vote.
He will be out tonight and tomorrow for a medical appointment. Rep. Hern will be out over the weekend for his mother's funeral.

Hm. I don't think the code has a limit.

Perhaps if McCarthy tried, oh, I don't know, doing what politicians invariably do in a situation like this ie. attempt a little negotiation with the dissenters, he might conceivably be able to cobble together 218 votes.
But as long as his strategy is to, uh...berate and browbeat them, even going so far as to have the Texas Zioclops call them all "terrorists", then I don't think he's going to be to be Speaker.
|
|
|
Why anyone would desire to install as Speaker a neocon cypher who wants to take us into a potentially strategic nuclear conflict over a Russo-Ukranian border dispute, well, that's a little more difficult to understand.

The dissenters know him too well and want no part of that.
