The Republican field for this light blue seat is more impressive than the Republican primary field in a lot of tossup seat races at the moment. 2022 sleeper race? Republicans are bound to have one seat that’s their “Oklahoma 05” of the midterm cycle.

I think their “Oklahoma 5” may be a few different races considering how unpopular Joe Biden is. Given that a lot more democrats will be on the top of the ballot here an upset seems unlikely to me. I think New Jersey 03 (maybe I’m biased lol) is a great opportunity for republicans despite the new gerrymander.

Surprisingly it does not appear that Dems are going to shore up this district in a measurable way.

a list of changes in the 2nd Congressional district boundaries since 1932:

the border in Providence has moved around

New Shoreham went from CD1 to CD2 once it switched counties in 1963 (Block Island used to be in the same county as Newport)

Burrillville was in CD1 for 20 years (1993-2013)

North Providence, North Smithfield, and Smithfield switched from CD2 to CD1 in 1972

So when CD1 was 64% Biden and CD2 was 56% Biden, trying to move both districts towards 60% probably isn't a high priority
