The Progressive Conservatives have ridden a Jaws Beach-sized wave, seeing their support climb from 27% at the beginning of the year [Link] to 'neck-and-neck' with the Liberals at 36% today [Link] Concurrently, the Liberal's advantage collapsed from 51% to 39% during the same period.
This change of fortune can be partly attributed to what pundits and locals call PC leader Tim Houston's "excellent campaign." Houston has been steady and amiable. He also steered his dreadnaught slightly left by lifting Liberal Party messaging and totems as his own. Also heavy in the mix is Liberal Premier Iain Rankin's unpopular move to call this snap election in the first place on July 17, 2021. Remind you of something?

Bye bye, Rankin. Houston conducted a magnificent campaign. The trend was obviously his to ride on [Link] Too many people looking at the Liberals with rose-colored glasses. Hope this wakes up the Trudeau team. This victory will shock Ottawa.

Also, the PC's share of the vote is appearing to hold at 43.7% while the Liberals are in the low thirties (32.8% now) [Link] That's a double-digit lead. Compare this with what the polls were presenting up to the last minute. Now the question being asked is whether the PC will lead a majority or minority government - so far, PC 28 seats; Liberals 16 seats; NDP 10 seats. Impressive enough that the Tories are able to sweep away any Liberal ridings in NS, which is what they are doing.

These results are quite significant historically. The Tories hadn't held control of NS for 15 years. All of a sudden, like a blast from the blue, there's a switch-around this year. Why? And, wow, was there a switch. 31 seats? For complete majority control?! Who believed this possible? The pundits reflexively went along with what the polls consistently showed us - a clear Liberal thumping of the Tories. Instead, the result was more than just a victory for the PCs, it was a complete repudiation of the Liberals.
