A real pouncing of the CDU. By hefty double digits so far.

A 14 point smash by the SPD. The CDU off its perch in Saarland for the first time since 1999(!) The talk of Germany today.

The Little Engine That Could. Can the FDP hit that 5% threshold and get a seat in the Big Boy table? There's still some 100,000+ votes to go.

The small but significant victory of Olaf Schulz combined with the Russian Invasion of Ukraine has really changed the perception of the SPD among German Voters. Schulz is standing up to Russia compared to the position of the SPD under Schroeder who despite conflicts sought closer ties. I'm sure their electoral success will continue for years to come.

The selection of AKK and then Armin Laschet will also have an impact for years to come on the CDU too.

You're right, Brentin. To pull out of the morass the CDU is falling deeper into, it must clear out the half-dozen costive greyfaces who currently run it, then mount up on top of CDU headquarters the popular Markus Söder as their new leader, sitting Napoleonic on a white horse for all to see.

Had Söder been the CDU/CSU's 2021 chancellor-nominee and not the blubbering imbecile they chose instead, Scholtz would now be in Hamburg trying to get his old mayoral job back (and Tobias Hans would have been re-elected Minister-President of the Saar).

AKK and Laschet were as inspiring as wet rags. And even that might be overstating it a bit.
