A politician's lifelong daydream come true.
Samoa's parliament has been split down the middle, 25 each, with one independent now holding the future of Samoa, and a new government, in his hands.
This lone fellow, a man named Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio, is in a position to demand whatever his constituents want as a condition for his support. He could ask that a pile of money be planted in his district, the GagaŹ»emauga [Link] ; new roads, new stoplights, a new stadium, $10,000 for every family - whatever he wants within reason. Each side will outbid the other, jump through fire-lit hoops and kiss all ten of Tuala Iosefo's hairy toes, all for his nod and handshake, and that's just the start of it. His district will love him to death, make him Prime Minister, build monuments to him made of Fa'apapa.
I wonder what I'd ask for, if I were in his lavalava?

Some of you may recall that something similar happened in Ghana last year - [Link]

A Solomonic decision, Samoan style?
Independent Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio decides to throw his weight behind FAST [Link] FAST leader Naomi Mata'afa now Samoa's new prime minister? Well, not so fast. Samoa's current prime minister finds a constitutional loophole: women are guaranteed 10% of the Fono's seats, and we're missing one. I'll appoint her myself and make sure she's an HRPP member. Devious. 26 to 26.
