This will be another interesting Colorado Congressional primary. Lamborn gets a notable challenger every two years but seems to dispense of them easily. Is this year the same? Probably.

Of interest, Dave Williams aligns with and has been a thought leader within the more conservative elements of the Colorado Republican party. Not sure this will be enough, but I am curious to see how the endorsements go. If Williams starts pulling in endorsements from the County and Colorado Springs party, it could be an indicator that he's got some momentum. Williams also is of latino heritage. That may or may not play much of a factor. There are 130k El Paso County residents of Hispanic heritage according to the 2020 Census.

Why does Lamborn always get a strong challenger?

Several factors. But mostly this is a very Republican district and the primary is the "real" race. Its very hard to please all the conservative constituencies in this district too. Religious. Military. Ranchers. Economic Conservatives.

Term limits in Colorado probably always force some popular politicians to take the chance because they can't run for re-elections and they need to do something with their unused campaign accounts.

This creates a dynamic where there always seems to be a market for a challenger.

But, Lamborn always seems to dispense of his challengers. This year might be different because he is being investigated by the House for improper use of office funds. We'll see. Not sure it has real legs.

The only open question for this primary is will Andrew Heaton qualify for the ballot. He submitted signatures and we await the determination of the SoS if enough signatures have been submitted.

Both Lamborn and Keltie are on the ballot as they have both submitted enough valid signatures.

I'm not ready to call this for Williams. But I will say I'm thinking this could be a close race for Lamborn. He has run afoul of the El Paso GOP leadership and they are out to make an example of him. Also Lamborn dropping out of the convention is a sign that he didnt' think he could get 10% of the vote (he probably wouldn't have) and would not have made the primary ballot even though he submitted enough signatures - it would have been a sign of his very low support.

Definitely a primary to watch. The dynamics of the race and the Republican party are pointing to a possible upset by Williams.

Something that wasn't a thing a year ago is "central to who I am". Please.

What a tragic waste any person for whom “Let’s Go Brandon” is “central to who I am” represents. If that is your life's apex you have aimed very, very low.
