Kim Kardashian West as a nominee? 100% lobbying success rate.

For your consideration, added Will Haskell. He may not be one of the big names that won in the fall, but consider these qualifications for outstanding.

- Defeated an incumbent that has held the seat longer than he has been alive.
- Defeated an incumbent that won the district by 20+ points in her last election
- Won a seat in a district that had been Republican since 1973 (45 years)
- Personally knocked on 4000 doors during the campaign and held 142 meet-and-greets in homes.
- Was successful in gaining name recognition, fundraising, and endorsements (including Barack Obama and Chris Murphy).
- Accomplished all of this as a 22 year-old unknown first time candidate

The cons for his candidacy would be that:
- the district went for Hillary Clinton by 20 points in 2016
- Having worked for Congressman Jim HImes, he was at an advantage to get some big name endorsements that other first time candidates would not have.
- argument can be made that this district has been trending Democrat over the last 10 years

Frankly, I’ve been looking to find a Republican candidate to add to this list, one that bucked the trend of Democratic wave in his or her state (still looking), but in the process came across Haskell.

It seems to me that these accomplishements are pretty outstanding even in a good year for Democrats

One edit....defeated an incumbent that has been in office (not held the seat) longer than he has been alive.

Charlie Baker would be a tempting obligatory R candidate here in light of him winning re-election 2-1 in Massachusetts.

Baker probably had the most impressive R win out of the Baker/Hogan/Scott trio that holds Gubernatorial offices in the Northeast.

I am going to throw out a first: nominating a loser for this race.

Beto O'Rourke was an unknown and unimportant congressman. Yet, he managed to get hundreds of thousands to watch his stupid Facebook live videos and donate to his senate campaign. And he is now a top tier presidential candidate.

All my opinions (very negative) about him aside, no politician came close to him in terms of improving their brand

When a loser is a winner. If ever there was a modern case of a loser being in this category it is definitely O’Rourke.

I want to hear how O'Rourke frames it: "I really wanted to be a senator from Texas, but that didn't work out so I'll settle for being president instead."

Would like to put on the record, if not nominate, the year Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has had. Since assuming office in April, he has undertaken numerous political and economic reforms, including opening up state-run enterprises, urging multiparty politics, and releasing imprisoned journalists and opposition politicians. He also restored full diplomatic relations with Eritrea, resuming trade and reuniting families that had been torn apart for decades.

Not trying to write some puff piece a la Thomas Friedman with MBS, as all of these changes could EASILY backslide, but I thought it was an interesting political year to share.

You can have a write-in vote. Post who that write-in vote is and I'll add it to the final tally.

I write in Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, to represent the new Progressive movement started by the Sanders campaign.

Especially since her win was the biggest win because she was outraised 10 to 1 and running against the #4 Democrat in the House, AND SHE BEAT HIM. TWICE EVEN (He refused to give up the Working Families and Women's Equality Ballot Lines)

Really should have nominated Representative Lauren Underwood (D-IL) for this race. Winning a suburban/exurban Trump district as a political rookie against a relatively noncontroversial incumbent is no easy feat. Apologies to the Congresswoman for the snub.

I'm confused as to why Ocasio-Cortez got less votes than O'Rourke. He lost, nothing outstanding there.
