Whoa - frontrunner Josh Mandel just dropped out. (Wife has a health issue)

Mandel was never the ideal choice to run against the wife beater in the general.
Hopefully a woman wins the GOP nomination.

“Wife beater”? Source please.

I love how Democrats conveniently ignore accusations of abuse from Sherrod Brown’s 1986 divorce case.

Got me on this one, Scott.

Found an article from the 2012 campaign where they examine it (contains both campaigns' responses): [Link]

Both John Kasich and Mary Taylor said over the weekend they won’t be getting into this race. Looks like unless Republicans find a candidate Gibbons will be it.

I heard that Renacci might be jumping in.

Yeh, I’ve read a number of names are possible replacement candidates including Tiberi, Stivers, and Renacci. The Ohio GOP has until Feb 7. There is a deep bench in Ohio, if party needs to work together to figure out which one of the stronger candidates in the Govenors race moves to this race. If not it will be huge lost opportunity. This was a seat the GOP needed the Democrats to spend money on saving. Without a credible candidate here, the Democrats will be throwing money in other races in 2018.

The Republicans should still keep the Senate, but without a credible candidate here, the math and money shifts significantly.

I personally would have liked Kasich to step in.

Brown is going to be sitting on over $10 million COH when 4Q reports come out over the next few days. Not that dark money and PACS won't erase that deficit for the eventual Republican nominee.

McConnell's apparently trying to get Vance to run. [Link]

Funny find, DylanSH99. A 'Hillbilly' Senator...from Ohio. McConnell ought to spend his energy more on persuading Kasich to run, the GOP's only chance against Brown.

I think J.D. Vance can self-fund. He ticks a lot of the boxes needed for a late entry candidate: 1. Self-fund, 2. Name Recognition (some) 3. Scandal free.

Its a hail-mary by McConnell. If the Vance news is going public, all the other big names have already said no.

Renacci is in.
