I read a couple articles that say then Ohio Speaker Vern Riffe (D) had in for 12th district Dem Congressman Bob Shamansky because Shamansky "didn't endorse him for Governor" and so he drew more Republicans into Bob's seat on purpose just to spite him (a foolish petty action I can't imagine a slick Democrat would do, Ohio had dived Government in 1981 and the map was a compromise). But I see here that Riffe didn't even run for Governor. So...it's just nonsense then?

I do know that in 1991, Tom Foley pressured Riffe to get rid of John Boehner's district.
