Okay this is a little complicated. In the mid-20th century, three different men named Herbert Hoover (none of which was the ex-President) ran for statewide office in Ohio as a Republican. The one who was the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor in 1944 lived in Akron. The two men here lived in Columbus and Dayton. I am looking in newspapers.com to see if I can untangle the three.

Well the Akron and Columbus Herbert Hoovers were the same person. In this race, he filed a lawsuit to keep HLH off the ballot but lost the case.
