The Socialist Party is having its national convention this weekend, where they will likely choose a presidential ticket. I say likely, since per the party constitution, the SP has to specifically vote to *not* run a presidential campaign, and it's a bit of a principle among members to do so. No info on whether or not this has happened yet, but if I get results I'll add them in.
What's interesting to me is the field of candidates, in particular two previous candidates for the nomination putting themselves up for contention this time around- Eric Chester and Brian Moore. Chester's been a member of the SP for years, though last I was aware had moved to Scotland, so I'm a little surprised to see him back in the US, apparently living in North Carolina. Chester ran for the nomination every cycle between 1996 and 2008, losing every time, though he ended up as the vice-presidential nominee in '96. Moore was the presidential nominee in 2008, and I am a bit surprised he's running for the nomination this time again, since he left the SP not long after the 2008 race and drifted around through other different third parties, most recently running for FL state senate as a Green. For SP members that remember all that I imagine it'll work against him, but we'll see.
There are a few other candidates listed as well, most of whom aren't familiar to me, though Stephanie Cholensky and William Stodden are both long-time SP members. You can find the full list of candidates here: [Link]

Looks like the convention went with Stodden and Cholensky, which I thought might happen since Stodden was specifically running for the presidential nomination, or Cholensky as specifically running for the VP nomination: ?s=20
