One writer wrote this may trigger other retirements. Who is still on retirement watch for the Republicans? So many states' filing deadlines have passed.

I’m not overly surprised. There have been rumors. I posted a story about a month ago on this. I wonder if he will step down as Speaker before the end of the session to give Scalise (or whoever else gets elected) a head start and be in Campaign mode for the mid-terms.

I mean if I was Ryan, I wouldn’t want to be blamed for losing the house, I’d let that fall on the whoever leads the Republicans into the election.

Ryan said he wouldn't step down early.

If Republicans lose the House, I think the blame will be squarely on Trump, not Ryan. If Republicans manage to keep a bare majority, the Speaker's job will be an order of magnitude more awful than it is now. For Ryan, the only winning move is not to play.

His seat is now highly competitive.

oh, that's gonna be a bloody fight this fall. Just wondering, who the Republicans gonna recruit for this seat?

While I agree with this in principle, I am envisioning the Trump tweet after the election if the Republicans do indeed lose the house.

I think its fair to say that Trump will not take responsibility for any Republican defeat.
