Data SourcesNew Bern Gazette 8/25/1798. Dubin reports a total of 1,013 for Kennedy. I do not know the source for this number, since it is not given by the Gazette nor is it the sum of Kennedy's counties (both of which are 1,019).
DescriptionWillis Alston and William Kennedy both received support from both parties. Kennedy tended a little more to support the Federalists than Alston. Both candidates are generally acknowledged as Federalists in this race, although Alston moved further away from Federalism soon upon his arrival in Congress.
