Description | Small Marxist party split from the more powerful Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party in 1921. Party is the second oldest in Luxembourg still in operation. Party entered government for the first time via the National Union Government which lasted two years (1945–47). Party split in two when members opposing Marxist-Leninism formed the New Left (Nei Lénk) party in 1964 but later agreed to join forces to form The Left (Déi Lénk) coalition on January 30, 1999. Party has not held seats in parliament since 2004, and is only represented locally on the councils of Differdange and Rumelange. Party has been led by Ali Ruckert since 1999 [Kommunistesch Partei vu Lëtzebuerg; Parti Communiste Luxembourgeois; Kommunistische Partei Luxemburgs (KPL or PCL)]. |
