Description | Centrist party popular amongst Dalits and Moslems in the state of Bihar, bordering Uttar Pradesh. Party was founded by union minister Ram Vilas Paswan. Paswan's death on October 8, 2020 forced a split of the Lok Janshakti Party a year later into two separate parties, each owned by Paswan's son, Chirag Paswan, and brother, Pashupati Kumar Paras. The LJP was subsequently frozen in place by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and dissolved on October 5, 2021. The ECI allotted the name Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) to Chirag, and Paras got Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party. The ECI blocked all further use of the Lok Janshakti Party’s name and its party logo or symbol – a bungalow.
