Description | William H. Royer, a former congressman and Redwood City mayor, died at his Redwood City home Monday. He was 92.
Royer died of natural causes, said his nephew Jim Hartnett, also a former Redwood City mayor.
Royer, a Republican, was the 15th oldest former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Hartnett said. He served from 1979 to 1981 after winning a special election to finish the term of the late U.S. Rep. Leo Ryan, who was fatally shot on an airstrip in Jonestown, Guyana.
Before his stint in Congress, Royer served on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors from 1973 to 1979 and the Redwood City City Council from 1950 to 1966, including two terms as mayor. |
