Description | Mayor Joseph P. Riley, historic Charleston's top execuctive since 1975, announced his intentions to seek another term on Thursday, June 12.
Ordinarily, Riley would have no trouble winning re-election, but this year is a different story.
The Charleston city limits have expanded to include more conservative portions of Charleston county.
Former State Rep. Jimmy Bailey, a Republican, announced his candidacy earlier this year.
Also expected to announce his intentions is Republican City Councilman Kwadjo Campbell.
Both Bailey and Campbell are former Democrats.
