Description | Also, before he officially stepped in, a central Arkansas businessman Tom Formicola bowed out of the race for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.
Formicola, of Little Rock, said he hadn't raised enough money -- about $52,000 so far -- and probably couldn't overcome what he viewed as philosophical and geographical barriers to winning a GOP primary race -- being a moderate Republican from central Arkansas and there being two other candidates in the northwest part of the state.
"Where the Republican voters are puts me at a disadvantage. They are pretty conservative and would probably stick with one of their northwest Arkansas candidates," Formicola said.
Formicola, a former Maumelle alderman, called Holt and Lee "right-wing ultra conservatives" with little chance of defeating Lincoln in central Arkansas, which he considered the key region of the state with Democrats strong in eastern and southern Arkansas.
