Description | Louth and Horncastle, in the north-east corner of Lincolnshire among the Lincolnshire Wolds, provides a welcome break in the countryside when compared to the flat horizons that typify the county elsewhere. Farmland dominates the varied landscape of Horncastle, which contrasts with the affluence and elegance of Louth. The widespread alteration of constituency boundaries in Lincolnshire has affected Louth and Horncastle as much as any seat in the country. This constituency covers an area mostly contained within the old Lindsey East seat, although 23,500 voters in the south-east around Skegness have gone to form the new Boston and Skegness constituency. They have been replaced by 10,000 voters in the east from Gainsborough, centred on the Roman town of Horncastle. Tory Peter Tapsell has represented this seat in various different guises since 1959 - sitting for Horncastle (1966 - 83), East Lindsey (1983 - 97) and latterly Louth and Horncastle.
