Info | Anthony A. "Tony" Strickland
Former Assemblyman Tony Strickland is a no-nonsense fiscal conservative and a leading advocate for creating a stronger, more prosperous California economy.
A founding member and current President of the California Club for Growth, Tony has spent the past several years rallying California’s major donors and grass roots fiscal conservatives to advocate for lower taxes, less regulation, and business and job growth.
FORMER LEGISLATOR
Tony Strickland served three terms in the California State Assembly, where, following in the footsteps of his former employer State Senator Tom McClintock, he quickly established a reputation as a taxpayer advocate who was serious
about holding government accountable.
His colleagues were quick to recognize his leadership skills, electing him to serve as the GOP Caucus Chairman. In 2001, Tony made national news when he successfully sued then-Governor Gray Davis, forcing the Administration to reveal the terms of their secret energy contracts. The resulting press coverage over the extremely high-cost energy contracts crystallized the anti-Davis sentiment that eventually led to his recall in 2003.
Tony Strickland served as Vice-Chairman of Governmental Organization and Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media Committees. In addition, Tony was a Member of the Banking and Finance, Elections, Redistricting, Constitutional Amendments, Insurance, Health and Veterans Affairs Committees.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
An active member of his community, Tony is a Board Member of the Ventura County Council Boy Scouts of America, an Advisory Committee Member of Food Share, and an Honorary Board Member of the Moorpark Boys & Girls Club, in addition to being active in numerous civic, business and church organizations throughout Ventura County.
In 2002, he was the recipient of the San Fernando Valley Business & Professional Association’s Free Enterprise Award, for championing the free enterprise system in the State Assembly, and the “Forty Under 40” Award from the Pacific Coast Business Times.
Tony received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Whittier College, where he was honored with the Leadership and Service Award. He and his wife, Audra, live in Moorpark where they are expecting their first child in late 2005.
