Kathy Cox was elected into public office as State Representative of the 105th District in 1998. She has been a resident of Fayette County for over 13 years. She received both her Masters and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Emory University where she graduated with high honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. From 1987 to the present, she has been with the Fayette County Board of Education as a Social Studies teacher and is now at Mclntosh High School, a 2001 Georgia School of Excellence. As a legislator, Kathy serves on the Education Committee, the Health & Ecology Committee, and the Industry Committee. In 2001 the House Republican Leadership appointed her Deputy Minority Whip. Kathy has been recognized as both an exemplary educator and legislator, receiving the Georgia Outstanding Social Studies Educator Award and the Safe Kids Coalition of Georgia Legislative Award. For the past two years, she has also been recognized as a "Friend of Scouting" for the Flint River Boy Scout Council.
Kathy Cox is an active member of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church and the Peachtree City Kiwanis. She is also a member of the Peachtree City Little League, Cub Scout Pack 201, Boy Scout Troop 275, Delta Kappa Gamma -Women's International Education Honor Society, Emory Alumni Association, Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and the Huddleston Elementary PTO.
Kathy is married to John Hamilton Cox, Jr., and they have two school-age children: John and Alex
