Info | Ronald C. Green, a native Houstonian and active community partner, was first elected to the City Council, At-Large Position Four, on December 6, 2003 and re-elected on November 8, 2005, with 100% of the vote. Council Member Green brings a refreshing, common sense approach, to municipal government.
Council Member Green serves as Chairman of the City's Budget and Fiscal Affairs Committee which oversees all fiscal matters and initiatives to improve management and efficiency of City service delivery. The committee's scope includes the annual budget (comprised of the city's main tax-dollar-funded coffer, enterprise funds, capital improvement fund and equipment acquisition fund - which together total more than $3.9 billion annually), Monthly Financial and Operations Report, strategic purchasing, competitive bidding, and customer service issues. The committee's scope also includes oversight of the Municipal Courts reform. Additionally, Green serves on the Pension Review Committee, the Transportation, Infrastructure and Aviation Committee, the Housing and Redevelopment Committee and the Quality of Life Committee. Green also serves on the City's Ad-Hoc Committee on Legislative Affairs.
As a 1988 graduate of the Houston Independent School District's High School for Health Professions, Green went on to receive a Bachelor of Science, from the University of Houston, in 1993. In 1996, Green received his Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas. Subsequently, he was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and licensed to practice before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Green is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston 's Bauer College of Business.
Green is very involved in the community and his profession. He is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., 100 Black Men of America, Inc., UH Alumni Organization, UH Black Alumni Association, Thurgood Marshall School of Law Alumni Association, Government Finance Officers Association, National Association of Bond Lawyers, Houston Lawyers Association and Leadership Houston Class XXIII.
Council Member Green is one of the founding partners of The Green Firm, LLP and is married to Judge Hilary Harmon Green, Justice of the Peace, Harris County Precinct Seven, Place 1. The Greens have one son and are active members of Windsor Village United Methodist Church.
