There has been a tendency across the political spectrum to draw broad-strokes conclusions about the U.S. criminal justice system based on specific adjudications. Draw conclusions based on trends amongst statistically appropriate sample sizes, not specific adjudications. The weight of one, high profile verdict shouldn't be as significant as it has become.
Unless Gabbard (or anyone else) sat with the jury and listened to each case-in-chief, and deliberated with the jury in applying the law as instructed by the court, they shouldn't comment on whether the jury "got it right."

Thanks. Been a tough year. Thinking now my company made the right decision to not reopen the offcies in October and pushed it back until January.
For the woman I know that died. Alot in our friends circle are saying the same exact things as is written above. Disbelief. Anger. And frustration that she didn't get vaccinated.
If you are not going to do it for yourself, do it for your kids or the people you love.

Sorry to hear about those in your social circles, Brent.
I don't think there was ever a time where our country would be ready for a global pandemic, but 2020-2021 was certainly not. It has further revealed so many issues: government leadership, healthcare, economics, political self-sorting, and tribal politics.

I thought the worst was behind us. In the last 7 days, two people in my friend/co-worker circle have come down with COVID, both unvaccinated. 1 died, the other is in the hospital on a respirator. Its just so sad. Both have kids.
I believe everyone has the right to choose, but honestly getting vaccinated seems like a no brainer to me.

The burden of proof lies with the one making the claim of a stolen election, NOT everyone else. This man putting fake election results on a projector and claiming that’s the “real” result does not mean anyone has an obligation to “prove” him wrong. He’s making the claim. The burden of proof is on him. Nobody owes this man anything and he’s got a lot of nerve to say that others need to prove him wrong.

My take on the gubernatorial race is that none of the challengers are notable enough to take out Abbott. I could be entirely out of touch with what Texas Republicans think, but I don't think they are that mad at Abbott that they would want to replace him with Huffines or West.

Somewhat surprising. I sensed some discontentment with Peduto, but thought he'd ultimately string it out -- which is why I was initially surprised that Peduto was, in my observation, first to go negative on the airwaves. Given the result here, I now strongly suspect the Peduto camp has been sitting on some less than favorable numbers for some weeks now. It seems to me they got complacent in the face of a perfect storm of factors -- race and class disparity exacerbated by a pandemic and a heightened awareness of police violence among other factors, not to mention a reasonably credible and telegenic challenger in Gainey (in combination with the clear discontentment on the left). The bits and pieces were there early but, by the time the situation became apparent, I think the damage had already been done.
We'll see if Peduto goes independent in the Fall, but it would be a steep, and unlikely, uphill climb for him.

I think it's pretty obvious that if the Democrats re-nominate Cuomo, they may well lose. It's hardly guaranteed, but neither does it seem far-fetched. New York is good for the Democrats, and people tend to vote straight party tickets these days...but Cuomo could lose loyal Democratic voters. That's difficult to do in today's hyper-partisan environment, but Cuomo has managed it.

I am looking forward to see how RCV works in NYC. Pretty remarkable that the largest city in America is committing to this experiment. There are several smaller cities in Colorado that are moving towards this.
My biggest fear about RCV in NYC is that it will take forever to get results and could tarnish peoples opinion about RCV as a democracy device.
For a race like this I can't even begin to imagine how it will play out. Election nerds like me love this stuff, but I'm not sure the average voter will like this or know how to use RCV. The winner of this race will be a total surprise if the primary goes ahead with this many serious candidates.

This is apparently the guy who said on Twitter that Bill Burr's wife was just his "sexual servant", because she's Black.
Sounds like a very "woke" thing to say, so it's a little disturbing he's a Republican.

WSNJ: I think the worst of the Cuomo allegations is the one where he called a staffer up to his office. The most recent one is weird behavior to say the least.
Between the #metoo stuff and the falsifying of Covid Deaths, it would be great injustice for Cuomo to survive this with the protection of NY State Democrats. The only way I can see him surviving this would be for Democrats to be hypocrites and protect Cuomo after they have savagely trashed Republicans for the same in a State where they have a partisan advantage hoping he somehow squeeks by with a bare majority of the vote.
I'm banking that Democrats are waiting for the report from the AG to provide cover before bringing him down. Its clear that Cuomo is out of touch with reality - his press conference provided striking evidence of that disconnect. Is there anyone here on this website that would touch or proposition a co-worker in their office like Cuomo did? And he doesn't think its wrong - he's just sorry others feel they way they do. Half-assed apologies for offensive and wrong behavior.
How embarrassing and awkward would it be for justice Democrats like AOC and others to run on the same line as Cuomo in 2022.
