I suspect almost all of them drop down to the House if Welch runs. Leahy was a pork king during his time in the Senate and voters will want someone of similar experience level to continue to keep federal subsidies rolling in.
Obviously, Peter Welch will not get a seat on Appropriations as a freshman Senator but he is in a good position to argue that he is the only one in the field with the experience and know-how of the workings of Congress to continue to deliver for Vermont.
Beyond that Vermont loves its incumbents and Welch has proven to be just as universally beloved as Leahy and Sanders. Even when he does have major flaws come up (such as the insider trading x opioid deal) they rarely receive any media attention and voters tend to react negatively when the mudslinging comes from other candidates.

Did all of the other contenders announce they would not be running?

@Indy: No, but it'd be absolutely stupid to run vs running for a basically-identical race. The DSCC (and leftover funds from the DCCC) are all going to Welch, so imo it'd be sewer slide to jump in here. Any candidate with a lick of sense in them will run for the House seat.

A lot of the contenders had the caveat of "If Welch Runs, no point in going on."
So mist sources removed them from contention

The only one who even expressed interest in running against Welch was Tanya Vyhovsky and only if Bernie didn't endorse Welch. That said there might be one or two blast from the past candidates who might try and be a paper opposition to Welch. Their will also be at least two cranks running as is the law of all Vermont elections.
Don't know what source is being used for Miro here. He has never expressed in running for federal office but has expressed interest in the Governor's race.
