Appointment due to the death of Edward T. Hall. For simplicity, the appointment on this site covers the appointment for the last few weeks of Hall's term for which he was elected in 1974 and his intended four-year term for which Hall was elected in 1978. Technically, a vacancy occurred upon the start of the new Senate session in 1979 and Allen was reappointed.
