On April 18, 2018, President Erdogan called snap elections for June 24, 2018, elections which were originally set for November 3, 2019 [Link]
Parliament on January 21, 2017 passed laws that greatly expanded the powers of the presidency. The laws were approved by popular referendum on April 2017.
Among other things, the laws increase the number of MPs from 550 to 600, abolish the office of Prime Minister, and allow the President to dissolve Parliament at will.
