I’m not expert, but my guess would be generational and probably the last name. If his name was Joseph Kennedy, Markey would be gliding towards re-election.

I definitely prefer Kennedy primarily for the generational part...I personally think getting more of the younger generations into the federal government will go a long way

I am ignorant when it comes to Massachusetts politics, why is Kennedy primarying Markey. Shouldn't the left have little to complain over him - or am I missing something
The Left has nothing to do with Kennedy's Primary, the more adherent leftists are backing Markey (Ro, AOC, Our Revolution). Kennedy is repeating the strategy of Seth Moulton and Ayanna Pressley, primary on ur age alone saying you'll bring a "new face" to politics and when u do ur digging they are either worse than or are no different than the incumbent

The left also has ambitious politicians that aren't willing to wait for someone to step aside.

The diffrence is, the Left Primaries politicians that are bad to push issues, this is just a guy who wants to be like his papa

Exactly, he thought he could breeze his way through this on the Kennedy name but in this day in age, that don't fly

Is Markey more Progressive and to the left to Kennedy?. Im just wondering what the main differences is between the two of them.

Yes he absolutely is.
Markey supported Med4All when Bernie brought it to the Senate and during his house Tenure while Joe took didn't support it till now.
2 years ago he was openly against Marijuana Legalization
Not that long ago Kennedy's family had huge stocks in Fossil Fuel Industries while Markey is Senate sponsor of GND
Kennedy is running a policy empty opportunist campaign mooching off his families name

To be honest had i been a Massachusetts voter id of voted for Markey. I love how authentic and passionate he is about environmental and supporting communities.
Kennedy seems more opportunistic, can't say im a fan of him.

Kennedy seems more opportunistic
This is a pretty good analysis of the race and why Kennedy chose to challenge Markey now.
https://centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/articles/markey-vs-kennedy-welcome-to-the-most-unusual-senate-primary-in-decades/
From the article:
So why is Kennedy challenging Markey in the primary?
It appears to be a combination of ambition and style.
For a Kennedy, the ambition part is obvious. He’s the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy and the grand-nephew of John F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy, each of whom served in the Senate. His father, Joe Kennedy II, previously served in the House. Kennedy III has already been elected four times to his House seat.
“The problem for ambitious Democrats in a heavily Democratic or Republican state — a state like Massachusetts — is that the ladder to the top statewide offices is often blocked by long-time incumbents,” said Steve Smith, a political scientist at Washington University in St. Louis who specializes in the Senate.
“The probability of knocking off such an incumbent is low, so primary challenges are uncommon. But a candidate with ambition and non-zero chances of winning may come to a ‘now or never’ decision.”
If Kennedy were to wait, a future Democratic primary “could see high-powered contestants like Attorney General Maura Healey or Reps. Seth Moulton or Ayanna Pressley,” said Maurice T. Cunningham, a University of Massachusetts-Boston political scientist. “If an opening does not come up in 2021, it could be four to six years — or even more — before a Senate seat opens. Polling told Kennedy that Markey is vulnerable, and the possible candidates down the road are all formidable.”
I actually think it will probably be a good thing if Markey defeats Kennedy. I've never been a big fan of the idea that just because someone is the offspring of a well-known politician that makes them qualified to hold political office. But in this country and others, voters seem to do it time and time again. Admittedly, when Kennedy announced, I automatically picked him to beat Markey easy. If Markey defeats Kennedy in this race, future Kennedys will actually have to earn their nominations instead of just expect them.

Well ur in luck, as the days go by, people see Kennedy as what he is. A watered down version of his family (Doesn't even have the accent)
