Description |
Term End due to MP withdrawing from SNP whip following allegations of financial impropriety
BBC Constituency Profile:
Scotland's towering national rugby stadium, Murrayfield, is the most visible landmark in Edinburgh West, a seat which also takes in the city's airport, seen as vital to the success of the local economy.South Gyle, a major business and shopping centre, is located in this constituency, which also includes the areas of Stenhouse, South Queensferry and Edinburgh suburbs like Cramond.
The area has previously been represented at Westminster by political veterans Lord James Douglas-Hamilton, of the Conservatives, and Liberal Democrat Donald Gorrie, who later became an MSP.
Mr Gorrie was succeeded by fellow Lib Dem John Barrett as the local MP and then by the party's Mike Crockart, who won the seat in 2010 with a majority of 6,115 votes.
