BBC Constituency Profile:
For more than 500 years, the ancient town of Dunfermline was Scotland's capital - its abbey is the burial place of Scottish kings and queens, including Robert the Bruce. The town's textile industry suffered post-war decline and the old west Fife mines have largely been replaced by electronics and computer firms.
Elsewhere, Rosyth naval dockyard remains a significant employer, while North Queesferry's Deep-Sea World aquarium brings in the tourists. The area's most famous landmarks are the Forth bridges. A replacement car crossing will open in 2016.
Dunfermline and West Fife is traditional Labour territory. Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie famously won the seat in a 2006 by-election with a swing of more than 16%, but Labour's Thomas Docherty reclaimed it in 2010, with a majority of 5,470.
