BBC Constituency Profile:
The rural Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk constituency includes the Border towns of Hawick, Jedburgh, Melrose and Kelso - equally famous for their ancient abbeys and rugby teams. The industrial revolution saw local cottage weaving operations transformed into a thriving centre for tweed production.
That industry is now past its heyday, although the tweed, cashmere and knitwear industries are still present, as is agriculture, forestry and fishing. Many tourists are also drawn to the area, whether to visit attractions like Melrose Abbey - reputed burial site of Robert the Bruce's heart - or fish in the Borders rivers. About one in five constituents commute from the area for work, and completion of the Edinburgh-Borders rail link in September will further boost links.
Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk, created for the 2005 election, was won by Liberal Democrat Michael Moore, with the former Scottish secretary holding the seat in 2010 with a 5,675 vote majority.
