BBC Constituency Profile:
Situated in north Buckinghamshire is the predominantly rural seat of Buckingham. Commons Speaker John Bercow is Buckingham's MP, but he gave up his Conservative party affiliation upon taking office in 2009. Labour and Liberal Democrats adhered to the convention of not contesting the Speaker's seat at the 2010 election. Instead Mr Bercow was opposed most successfully by UKIP leader Nigel Farage who was injured in a plane crash on polling day.
The seat is home to the University of Buckingham - the country's first private university. A fifth of the population has a professional occupation, while one in six has a managerial role - one of the higher proportions of all constituencies in England and Wales, according to ONS 2011 Census figures.
Three quarters of the population are homeowners. In 2010, John Bercow held the seat with 47.3% of the votes; Buckinghamshire Campaign for Democracy got 21.4%, UKIP 17.4% and Independent 5%.
