BBC Constituency Profile:
Gretna Green - the Borders village historically favoured as a wedding venue for couples eloping from England - is one of the more well-known parts of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale. Most people in this seat live in villages and towns such as Moffat, surrounded by large areas of farmland.
The western part of the constituency has ties to old industry including opencast mining and traditional knitwear manufacturing, which is in decline. Tourism is also important, and the Old Blacksmith's Shop and Centre at Gretna Green is one of Scotland's most visited free attractions. Elsewhere in the seat, the town of Lockerbie has become synonymous with the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988 - the UK's worst terrorist atrocity.
The constituency was held in 2010 by Scotland's only Conservative MP, David Mundell, with a 4,194-vote majority.
