BBC Constituency Profile:
This multi-cultural north-east London seat boasts the longest outdoor street market in Europe - covering roughly a kilometre of Walthamstow High Street. Well connected with rail and London Underground stations, the constituency contains most of the Walthamstow area as well as part of Highams Park. It is a relatively deprived constituency, in December 2014 it was 100th out of 650 constituencies for Job Seekers' Allowance claimants. Few retired people here. Unemployment is above average and lots of people in unskilled work.
According to the 2011 Census, Walthamstow has relatively high numbers of people living alone. Less than half of all residents describe themselves as white. There is a large Asian and black population here - particularly people of Pakistani or Caribbean origin. There is a large Muslim population and lots of residents from eastern Europe.
Labour's Stella Creasy won the seat in 2010 with a comfortable majority of 9,478 votes. The Lib Dems placed second.
