Description BBC Profile:
The Conservatives held the constituency of Wallasey between 1945 and 1992, when Labour's Angela Eagle won the seat. She has retained it ever since then but her majority has fallen from more than 19,000 in 1997 to 9,109 in 2005.

At the election, the seat gains the part-ward of Moreton West and Saughall Massie from Wirral West. It loses the part-ward of Hoylake and Meols to Wirral West. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

The constituency of Wallasey is across the Mersey from Liverpool, on the northern tip of the Wirral peninsula. It encompasses residential areas, derelict docklands, council estates and the seaside resort of New Brighton.

As in other constituencies on the Wirral, there were deep concerns over attempts by Mersey Travel to raise tolls on traffic passing through the tunnel underneath the Mersey, which connects the Wirral peninsula with Liverpool.

Attempts to regenerate the area are important in New Brighton. The scheme includes a leisure centre, cinema, family leisure barn with pubs, bars and cafes, supermarket and shops, hotel, executive flats and apartments and a complete refurbishment of the Floral Pavilion.
