| Description |
County Clerk Ronni Nochimson (R) won election by defeating an incumbent in 1994 and won re-election in 1999 by a similar margin. Since then, the fortunes of the GOP in the county have turned, as the Republican Party got embroiled in scandal.
Turnout in Passaic in particular is expected to be heavy, and most expect Democrats to sweep as they did in 2000. Nochimson sought out a deal to switch parties early in 2004, but Democrats, confident in their ability to pick up the seat, rejected it.
