BBC Profile:
Bristol South has had a Labour MP since 1935. In fact, it was the only seat Labour retained in the South West at the 1983 general election. Long-serving MP Michael Cocks was de-selected in 1987 and succeeded by Dawn Primarolo. Since 1997 she has held the seat with majorities of more than 20%.
There are minor boundary changes. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
The northern half of the constituency, close to the river, is characterised by Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing, and is largely owner-occupied. Far more populous, however, is the southern part of the constituency, which is dominated by large, modern council estates.
Of the urban Bristol constituencies, Bristol South is the most working-class, with relatively low proportions of managerial class employees.

LD 10,436 (23.74%)
