Description BBC Profile:
Conservative MP Bill Cash has held this seat since its creation in 1997, increasing his majority to 9,089 in 2005. Previously he was the member for the neighbouring seat of Stafford.

Boundary changes have moved the two north-east wards of Alton and Churnet to Staffordshire Moorlands, while the south-east wards of Seighford and Haywood and Hixon are now entirely within Stafford's boundaries. In addition, Chartley and Church Eaton wards are now completely within the seat, having previously been shared with Stafford. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Stone is a vast, mainly rural, constituency sprawling between Stoke to the north and Stafford to the south and stretching west to east almost across the entire width of Staffordshire.

The seat contains three medium-sized market towns: Cheadle, Eccleshall, and its namesake Stone, although the seat lacks a major urban centre and is otherwise mainly rural and sparsely populated.

The seat contains a population that tends to be slightly older than average, with a significant number of constituents in the 40 to 65 age bracket.

Employment includes managerial and professional occupations. Many local people commute to big companies in nearby towns and cities such as Stoke and Stafford.
