Description |
Ten cities placed bids to host the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. On August 28, 2002 the IOC short-listed five of them and eliminated five others from contention.
Osaka defeated Yokohama to become the Japanese bid. The USOC decided not to bid for another Games so soon after the Atlanta Games. Baltimore, Cincinnati, Houston, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington had all considered bids as had Monterrey, Mexico.
